Lauren Danielle Katzenstein

June 30, 1987 – April 26, 2003

Lauren Katzenstein was a 15 year old sophomore student at South Plantation High School in Plantation, Florida.  She maintained straight A’s in all honors classes.

Lauren had a love for musical theatre and loved to sing.  She was active in drama, usually working on the tech team whenever a school production was being presented.  Lauren’s goal for her senior year was to have become Stage Manager.

Lauren was a member of South Plantation’s girls Cross Country and Track teams.  Lauren rarely missed a practice and was very dedicated to the sport of running. In addition, Lauren enjoyed being a member of the school’s Paladin Society which allowed the students to learn about and experience the Renaissance period.

Lauren also shared a love of bicycling with her father, and enjoyed participating in the MS150 “Breakaway to Key Largo” bike tour with him.  The MS150 is a fundraiser for Multiple Sclerosis research.

On April 26, 2003 Lauren was riding in her second MS150 with her father.  Approximately, three and a half hours after the start of the ride Lauren was hit and killed by a speeding, unlicensed driver who lost control of the car he was driving.  At the time of the accident, there was also a suspicion of DUI, but that charge was later dropped due to lack of evidence.

Lauren will always be remembered as a fun-loving teenage girl who loved to sing and who had a strong sense of self.  She was never concerned with what other people might think of her (she enjoyed singing out loud while riding her bike).  Lauren was a very loving daughter and sister.  We will miss her presence and the sound of her voice every day for the rest of our lives.  Lauren is survived by her mom-Robin, dad-Dave, and younger sister-Dara, as well as her new baby brothers-Ben and Daniel.

We love you Lauren!
